Internal Pedagogical Innovation Conference P.PORTO 2026

JIIP’26
July 16 and 17, 2026 School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE) Diploma / Workshop per area - 2 hours

The P.PORTO Internal Pedagogical Innovation Conference (JIIP’26) is a space for reflection, sharing, and collective building around the challenges and opportunities of pedagogical innovation in higher education.

This edition is promoted by P.PORTO, through the Pedagogical Innovation Center, in close cooperation with its Schools, assuming a collaborative model of organization. The active participation of the organic units reinforces the institutional dimension of the initiative and values the diversity of experiences, contexts, and pedagogical approaches existing within the Institute.

Building on the work developed by the Schools and pedagogical innovation initiatives promoted in recent years, JIIP’26 proposes a time for critical analysis of practices implemented in the 2022–2026 period, seeking to understand their impact on learning, student engagement, and academic success.

More than a space for sharing experiences, this conference aims to foster dialogue among teachers, students, and pedagogical support teams, contributing to the consolidation of an institutional culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

The contributions collected throughout the event will also serve as a basis for identifying strategic priorities and defining guiding recommendations for the future of pedagogical innovation at P.PORTO.

Objectives

  • 1

Promote the dissemination, sharing, and critical discussion of innovative pedagogical practices developed across the different Schools of P.PORTO.

  • 2

Analyze evidence of the impact of implemented pedagogical strategies on students' learning, engagement, and academic success.

  • 3

Foster inter-institutional collaboration, reinforcing networks between teachers, pedagogical teams, and structures supporting educational innovation.

  • 4

Reflect on the challenges, opportunities, and ethical implications of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in the transformation of teaching and learning processes in higher education.

  • 5

Value the professional and pedagogical development of teachers, promoting a culture of reflection, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

  • 6

Identify emerging trends and strategic priorities for pedagogical innovation in the context of higher education.

Foundations of artistic research and its impact on higher arts education

Foundations of artistic research and its impact on higher arts education proposes a reflection on the epistemological foundations of artistic research, arguing that its central purpose is the creation and dissemination of relational knowledge: a knowledge that transforms the ways in which we relate to the world, rather than just producing knowledge about it. From this perspective, the implications of artistic research for higher arts education will be discussed, namely the valuation of artistic practice as knowledge production, the importance of discovery and transformation processes, and the need for pedagogical models that promote creativity, openness to the unexpected, and the construction of meaning through artistic practice.

Moderator: Fernando Remião (Vice-Rector of the University of Porto / Coordinator of the INOV-NORTE Project)
